Washing machine won't drain, won't spin or is leaking water? Our factory-trained technicians repair front-load and top-load washers from all major brands — often the same day.
A broken washing machine means piles of laundry and, sometimes, a flooded laundry room. MSJ Appliance Repair provides fast, reliable washer repair throughout Sacramento, Natomas, Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Citrus Heights, Folsom, Elk Grove, Yuba City and Marysville.
We repair front-load washers, top-load washers with agitators or impellers, high-efficiency (HE) washers, stackable laundry centers and washer-dryer combos. Whether it's a failed drain pump, broken lid switch, worn drive belt, bad door lock or a control board error code, we diagnose it accurately and give you the price before any work begins.
Here are the washer problems we see most often, what usually causes them and how our technicians repair them.
01
Washer not draining
Common causes: A clogged drain pump filter or coin trap, a kinked or clogged drain hose, a failed drain pump, or a lid switch or door lock problem that stops the drain cycle. Common drain error codes include LG "OE", Samsung "5C" / "5E" / "nd" and Whirlpool "F9 E1".
How we fix it: We clear clogs, test the drain pump and switches and replace the failed part.
02
Washer not spinning
Common causes: An unbalanced load, worn drive belt, failed lid switch or door lock, broken motor coupling, worn clutch or shifter, or a motor control board problem.
How we fix it: We test the drive system and safety switches and repair what's stopping the spin cycle.
03
Washer leaking water
Common causes: A torn door boot seal on front-load washers, loose or cracked fill hoses, a leaking drain pump, a failed tub seal, or too many suds from non-HE detergent.
How we fix it: We locate the leak and replace seals, hoses or pumps as needed.
04
Washer shaking, walking or banging
Common causes: Uneven leveling feet, unbalanced loads, worn shock absorbers or suspension rods, shipping bolts left in a new washer, or failing tub bearings (often a loud roaring during spin).
How we fix it: We level the washer and replace worn suspension parts or bearings.
05
Washer not filling with water
Common causes: Closed water valves, clogged inlet hose screens, kinked fill hoses or a failed water inlet valve. Error codes such as LG "IE" or Samsung "4C" / "4E" point to water supply problems.
How we fix it: We check the water supply, clean inlet screens and replace faulty inlet valves.
06
Washer won't start
Common causes: A faulty lid switch or door latch, control lock turned on, tripped breaker, failed control board or a broken start button.
How we fix it: We test power, safety switches and controls to get the washer running.
07
Front-load washer door won't unlock
Common causes: Water still in the drum, a drain problem, or a failed door lock assembly.
How we fix it: We drain the washer safely and repair the drain system or door lock.
08
Washer smells musty or moldy
Common causes: Detergent residue and moisture trapped in the door gasket, dispenser drawer or drain pump filter — especially in front-load washers.
How we fix it: We clean the problem areas, check drainage and recommend steps to keep odors away.
09
Washer showing an error code
Common causes: Error codes point to a specific system — drain, water supply, door lock, motor, unbalance or control problems.
How we fix it: We read the code, test the related components and repair the actual cause.
Before You Call
Quick washer checks you can try
Check that the drain hose isn't kinked, and clean the drain pump filter on front-load washers (have towels ready).
Redistribute the load if the washer stops mid-cycle or won't spin.
Make sure both water supply valves behind the washer are fully open.
Check whether the control lock or child lock is turned on.
Use HE detergent in HE washers and run a monthly tub-cleaning cycle.
Safety first: Unplug the washer and turn off the water supply before inspecting hoses or filters. If water is leaking near electrical outlets, turn off power at the breaker first.

Questions & Answers
Washer Repair FAQ
Why is my washer not draining?
The most common causes are a clogged drain pump filter, a kinked or clogged drain hose, or a failed drain pump. A faulty lid switch or door lock can also prevent the drain cycle from starting.
Why won't my washing machine spin?
An unbalanced load is the simplest cause. If rebalancing doesn't help, the drive belt, lid switch, door lock, motor coupling or control board may need to be repaired.
Should I repair or replace my washer?
A common rule of thumb is to consider replacement if a repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new washer and your machine is near the end of its expected life. Many washer repairs are well below that. We'll give you an upfront price so you can decide.
Do you repair stackable washer-dryers?
Yes. We repair stackable laundry centers, washer-dryer combos and standalone front-load and top-load washers.
Do you offer same-day washer repair?
Yes. Same-day washer repair is available in Sacramento, Natomas, Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Citrus Heights, Folsom, Elk Grove, Yuba City, Marysville and nearby areas. Call (916) 743-3279.
